Presidency and the Press
Londonderry High School senior Emily Houston, sits patiently in the air-conditioned room at Franklin Pierce University; at her first journalism conference bringing a wave of excitement for this aspiring journalist.
Deciding to apply to The Presidency and the Press Conference at Franklin Pierce University wasn’t a difficult one for Houston. “I knew I always wanted to go into writing,” said Houston.
Joining her high school newspaper, The Lancer Spirit, her junior year, Houston quickly climbed the ladder of success and was chosen as the editor of Lancer life for her senior year. “The editor of Lancer life is a section about what’s going on at the school,” said Houston.
Even though she only joined the paper a little over a year ago, journalism sparked an interest right from the start. “Immediately after joining the class I knew this is what I wanted to do,” said Houston. “It’s a perfect mix of events that are going on along with writing.”
Although the Presidency and the Press Conference mainly focuses on political journalism, Houston admits she sways to the more contemporary side of journalism. “It might not be hard-hitting,” said Houston. “But people still enjoy it.”
To get in the business of entertainment news, Houston knows her college decision has to be in the right location. In a city like New York, where big companies are based and celebrity events are occurring around the clock, Houston has her heart set on the big apple.
Even though she has only been on the school newspaper for a short amount of time, Houston has already decided on her life long career. “As soon as I did journalism, I knew that was it,” said Houston.
