Recent graduate of Abilene High School Bea Brittan looks forward to leaping into her future as an aspiring journalist.
Brittan plans to attend Loyola University in Chicago and major in either Journalism or English.
While attending college, Brittan hopes to write for either the school newspaper or involving herself in an internship with a major Chicago newspaper. At Loyola, Brittan will bring her three years of staff experience from her high school newspaper, the Booster. Her favorite aspect of her newspaper class in high school was the dynamic of the class. She observed the class her first year on the staff and then used her “pent-up” creativity to really get involved with the Booster.
Time inspires Brittan. She calls herself an “ultra-timer” when it comes to traveling, but believes her best stories come from the pressure of deadlines.
Brittan likes to refer to herself as the Chelsea Handler of Abilene. Handler inspires Brittan to get involved with the media perspective of journalism. Using what she dubs a blunt personality, Brittan aims to hone in on the area of broadcasting similar to Handler.
Ultimately, Ms. Brittan sees herself staying in the city and starting a book about her life and the encounters she has experienced. When thinking about her future ambitions and her passion for writing Brittan quoted, “Not writing is not an option.”
