While she may not know yet where life will take her, Caitlyn Blood has a passion for writing that she hopes will help her achieve great success.
Blood loves to write what is on her mind, and tries to practice writing every single day. Whether it is a simple account of her day or a fictional story, Blood enjoys putting her thoughts into words.
“It gives me a place to get away from everything in my life, and for fiction I can just write the complete opposite of anything that is happening in my life,” said Blood.
Blood is going to be a senior at Conant High School in Jaffrey, NH, which is a small high school with around 500 students enrolled. This week she will be attending the Presidency and the Press journalism conference at Franklin Pierce University, just a few minutes away from her hometown.
Blood became interested in the conference after a history teacher at her school suggested that she apply. She has always had a knack for history and politics, and thought that this conference would be a unique opportunity for her to pursue those interests while utilizing her writing skills.
At her school, Blood has also taken a speech class where she learned interviewing techniques, and will now be putting those into practice at the Presidency and the Press. She enjoys interviewing others, and is thankful that she has had some experience with this skill.
In addition to writing and interviewing, Blood also loves to sing, act and draw. Currently, her favorite music to sing includes songs by Adele, whose talent she greatly admires. In the past, Blood has combined her singing and acting abilities by performing in musicals, including “Beauty and the Beast,” “Wicked,” and “High School Musical.”
Blood also enjoys watching Diane Sawyer on television, who she sees as a role model. “She is kind of America’s sweetheart, and she has a really good reputation,” said Blood. Blood follows the news daily through WMUR and Good Morning America, and is passionate about the issues of global warming and gay rights, among others.
Because she has such a wide variety of interests, Blood does not know yet what she would like to pursue as a career after high school. “Some people when they are five say how they are interested in everything, and I am at that point in my life right now,” said Blood. Although she is not sure what exactly she would like to do, “I want to keep writing a big part of my life,” Blood said. She has become interested in a number of colleges, including Franklin Pierce University, University of New Hampshire, Syracuse University and Boston University.
