With her eyes on her dream seventeen year old Haley Nisbet of Dartmouth, Massachusetts hopes her drive will help her to become the next E! sensation.
From the start, up-coming senior Haley Nisbet knew she wanted to go into English. “I was never good at history or science so I knew I wanted to take the English path,” said Nisbet. “The best part of journalism is that others students think your more important and you know more,” she said. Nisbet took journalism because she was good at poetry and writing short stories. Although she writes for her school paper, and will be the editor-and-chief next year, broadcast journalism is her niche. “With broadcast journalism you are able to capture the emotions on camera; when writing for newspaper it is hard to paint the reader a picture show and emotion,” said Nisbet.”
Nisbet’s biggest inspiration is her journalism teacher, Wilbur Higgins. When asked what her favorite thing about him was she took a while to choose just one, once decided she said, with a smile, “probably that he makes me feel like a real journalist.” She continues to keep her motivation up for journalism, even though she knows it is a difficult profession to break out into. “Journalism is hard to get into and it has low pay, but I’m doing this because I want to. Some people may think that it is the easy way out but I think it is one of the hardest jobs out there.”
Nisbet’s drive does not stop after high school though. Her dream job would be to be on E!. Stars such as Ryan Seacrest appear on E! now but Nesbit said, “I don’t want to be the next anyone, I want to be the next me.” Her top colleges as of right now are University of North Carolina: Chapel Hill and Emerson. If she attends Emerson Nisbet wants to travel to there school in Los Angeles and intern at E!.
Although she has other commitments, Nisbet said, “journalism will always be my top priority, that is how people are going to know about you.”
