C-SPAN producer Steve Scully said that the coverage of campaigns has changed in the past 40 years.
Since the Internet has been utilized as a tool for campaign ads, candidates have been able to release advertisements for free.
When speaking about President Obama’s campaign, Scully said, “He took it one step forward. The Obama campaign had a vast number of people across the country.”
At the Franklin Pierce University campus in Manchester, New Hampshire, Scully lectured journalism students over Skype. At the lecture, Scully spoke about how the advancement of technology has changed the way candidates campaign and how media has had to adapt.
Dr. Kirsten Nevious, director of the Presidency and the Press conference, said, “If there is a journalist synonymous with the road to the White House, it is Steve Scully.”
The students had the opportunity to ask questions about the current Presidential race and how it compares to those of Presidents Nixon, Reagan, Clinton and others.
Scully said that if journalists get the information out, the public can make decisions. He said, “If you give people access to information, they can make up their own minds.”
