P&P students bond over cookout and games
by Timothy Wood
Getting together for a cookout at Pearly Pond, a trip to Wal-Mart, and games in the dorm last night to kick off the 2013 session of Presidency and the Press had the students looking forward to the rest of the week.
They got to experience some of the best parts of living at Franklin Pierce as they got to know each other outside of journalism. First they had the opportunity to swim in Pearly Pond. After some time in the water they congregated for hamburgers. With music in the background and full stomachs, they continued to bond over s’mores and conversation.Nearing the end of their time near the pond the students came together for a group picture. One student named Tom Dynan said, “the group picture made me feel like I really belonged, and I really started looking forward to the rest of theweek.”
Next they took a trip to Wal-Mart and bought snacks and drinks for the week, including pancakes for breakfast the next morning. A couple of students joked around by putting on kids’ backpacks. When they were finished they crowded back onto the bus to head back to Franklin Pierce.
When they arrived back at the dorms they continued their night of merriment with the game Apples to Apples. Though some counselors called this game “too literal”, the students enjoyed it very much. Austin Christopher summed up the night by saying, “It was great because it really helped ease the awkwardness and show us that it was going to be an enjoyable week.” By the time the night was over, the group felt much closer and felt ready to face what the week would bring.
