Column: Trump tweets need tweaking.

by Jackson Morgan

President Donald Trump communicates via Twitter. It is inevitable in the 21st century, but most teenagers I know believe that he needs to improve.

Most presidents before Trump used a more formal way to inform the public. Even President Franklin Roosevelt’s fireside chats were prepared ahead of time. I think that Trump’s use of Twitter simply reflects changing technology. I think we have to adapt to the ever-changing world, and so do our elected officials.

Trump’s use of Twitter is very interesting. His tweets allow us to know what he is thinking at any given time, but that may not always be a good thing.

It might not be the best idea to allow the president to talk about issues with no filter. Some of the views that he shares not only makes himself look bad, but what he says represents all Americans. Trump needs to realize that the 240 characters he uses represents the 325.7 million people that call the United States their home.

On July fourteenth President Trump tweeted “So funny! I just checked out Fake News CNN, for the first time in a long time (they are dying in the ratings), to see if they covered my takedown yesterday of Jim Acosta (actually a nice guy). They didn’t! But they did say I already lost in my meeting with Putin. Fake News……”

Tweets like these should not be coming from our president. Instead of attacking journalists for reporting “fake news” he should choose to put the positives in the spotlight.

In many of his tweets he spends too much time gloating. Instead he should be focusing on the interests of Americans rather than himself.

I don’t mind the spontaneity of Trump’s tweets, but I think he should start being more careful of what he posts.
